Why to choose a Weekend™ log house?

Log

Weekend™ log houses are made of pine which has grown slowly under Northern conditions and in which the annual rings are dense. This kind of wood is hard and strong.

Normally, when the wood is dry, the heartwood causes a tension in it, for which the wood cracks. The logs of Weekend™ log houses are heart-split, so that no tensions are caused in the wood and thereby no essential drying cracks either.

Laminated logs are made of two heart-split halves placed against each other and glued together. Also in this alternative, no cracks are formed in the log, because both halves have been heart-split.

Log joint

The logs for Weekend™ log houses are joined by wedge tongue and groove, so that the house becomes tight when the logs are pulled together by clamp bolts extending over the height of the whole wall.

Weekend™ log houses can be provided with a so-called unsymmetrical log corner which effectively prevents water from penetrating the joint, even during a storm when it is raining almost horizontally.

Doors

Entrance doors

The entrance doors of Weekend™ log houses are completely finished doors with a matchboard pattern, and they are equipped with hinges, lock cases, lock cylinders, and antique type handles. The doors have polyurethane insulation and rubber sealing against the frame. The doors have been treated with protective impregnant.

Interior doors

The interior doors of Weekend™ log houses are in rustic style, they are lacquered, and their handles and keyhole escutcheons are made of brass.

In addition to the doors, finished door jamb boards are included in the delivery.

Windows

The windows of Weekend™ log houses are completely finished, treated with protective impregnant, and equipped with fittings, and the hand grips are made of brass. Thermo glasskeeps the heat inside and makes the washing of the window easier. The casements are sealed with a rubber sealing against the frame. On special order, we will deliver fixed element glass units, rooflights, window shutters and ventilation shutters, as well as mosquito nets.

In addition to the windows, the delivery also includes window jamb boards. If the building includes an indoor staircase, the door and window delivery for Weekend™ log houses also includes a joiner staircase.

Thermo wall structure

For Weekend™ log houses, it is possible to select a thermo wall structure, which means that thermal insulation is provided inside the log frame, and the thermal insulation is covered with log panelling (the thermo wall structure is shown in detail in the schematic drawings). This kind of a log house can be easily heated even during a cold season.

The Weekend™ log house can also be provided with external thermal insulation, in which case the thermal insulation comes outside the log frame and is covered by weatherboarding (the thermo wall structure is shown in detail in the schematic drawings). This solution was also used in the favourite “Emmi” exhibition house by Weekend House at the housing fair in Vaasa in 2008.

Wrapping and storage

The timber for Weekend™ log houses is stored in covered outdoor storage areas, so that its moisture content is in equilibrium with outside air, but the timber is protected from rain.

The wrapping of the Weekend™ log houses protects the timber packages from external moisture and condensation moisture by waterproof recycled paper which is friendly to the environment. The packages are bound by a plastic strap. The packed products are stored in covered storage spaces protected from rain.

Erection

The walls of Weekend™ log houses are made completely of logs, including the gable triangles and the interior walls. This facilitates the erection to a great extent, when both the gable triangles and the interior walls are formed when the log frame is erected. The gable triangles are pre-sawn according to the angle of the roof, and the locations for the roof joists are pre-machined.

All the logs are marked and numbered. To make the erection easy and effortless, the delivery of Weekend™ log houses contains elements prefabricated and finished as far as possible; the boards are largely cut to a fixed length, and some of the material may also be assembled to finished elements. Also the finishing has been applied to a great extent; for example, railings made of logs are ready polished. When you look at the prices, you should also look at the list of delivery contents: the Weekend™ log houses with the prefabricated elements facilitate the erection and give an attractive final result.

Above, we have briefly described the features that make the Weekend™ log house a good choice. For detailed structural solutions, please contact our retail sales agent closest to you or our staff at the factory.
